What is Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis?
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, progressively destroying it. It is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in developed countries, primarily affecting women between 30 and 50 years old.
Symptoms: fatigue not relieved by rest, persistent coldness, hair loss, dry skin, unexplained weight gain, brain fog, depression, constipation, irregular cycles. The difficulty is that many of these symptoms are confused with “stress” or “age”.
Why PNI Helps with Hashimoto’s
Standard medical treatment (levothyroxine) corrects the missing hormone, but does not address the autoimmune cause. This is why many people continue to feel unwell even if their lab results are “normal”.
In PNI, we work on the factors that keep the autoimmune attack active:
- Intestinal permeability — almost universal in autoimmune conditions
- Nutritional deficiencies key for the thyroid (iodine, selenium, zinc, iron, B12, vitamin D)
- Chronic stress and HPA axis dysregulation
- Food sensitivities that perpetuate inflammation (gluten, dairy in some cases)
- Latent infections (Epstein-Barr, H. pylori) that chronicize the condition
What you can expect from a consultation
Review of your complete thyroid lab results (not just TSH: also free T4, free T3, anti-TPO and anti-Tg antibodies). An anti-inflammatory nutritional plan tailored to you, not rigid protocols. Judicious supplementation (only what you truly need). Stress management and sleep strategies. And, above all, education: so you understand what is happening to your body and what habits support improvement.
