What is SIBO?
SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) is a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, where there should normally be very few. These bacteria ferment food before your body can absorb it, generating excess gas.
Typical symptoms: abdominal bloating after eating (especially carbohydrates), gas, belching, abdominal pain, alternating diarrhea and constipation, new intolerances, fatigue, nutritional deficiencies despite eating well.
Why PNI helps with SIBO
SIBO almost never appears alone. Underlying causes often include:
- Altered intestinal motility (the “sweeping” action that cleans the intestine between meals does not work well)
- Vagus nerve dysregulation due to chronic stress
- Hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid)
- Ileocecal valve dysfunction
Attacking only the bacteria (with antibiotics or herbal remedies) without correcting these deep-seated causes makes SIBO return again and again. That’s why the pattern “they treat it, I feel better for a few weeks, and it reappears” is so common.
Our SIBO approach in Seville and online
1. Confirm the diagnosis with a breath test (lactulose or glucose) when appropriate, and identify the type (hydrogen, methane, or hydrogen sulfide) because each is treated differently.
2. Acute phase nutritional plan: low-FODMAP diet or specific to the type, with professional criteria to avoid excessive restrictions that could harm your microbiota long-term.
3. Mucosal repair and microbiota rebalancing once the overgrowth is controlled.
4. Root cause correction: motility, stress, eating habits, sleep, movement. This is the part that differentiates a complete PNI treatment from an isolated protocol.
